On Wednesday 19 June, we have organised an evening program that consists of an excursion in which we will discover the city of Amsterdam from the waterfront, followed by a sit-down dinner with drinks at one of Amsterdam's most trendy restaurants.
Our excursion will be a grand boat tour through the Amsterdam Canals, all taken care of by Amsterdam Boat Experience. At 15.00, we will gather at the docks in front of the Pillow Hotel (next to KIT) where we will be picked up by three large saloon boats. The boats will leave at 15.30, so be on time!
The excursion will lead us through the many, iconic canals of Amsterdam. Along the way we will have a good chance to see some of Amsterdam's many sights such as Rijksmuseum and H'ART (former Hermitage Museum) and get a really good impression of the iconic 17th century architecture for which Amsterdam is so famous. The total duration of the tour will be two hours, which includes a drink (soda, beer, wine) and some appetizers served by crew. At 17.30, we will dock at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam-Noord where we will proceed on foot to the restaurant for our conference dinner.
The Conference Dinner will be hosted by none other than restaurant Pllek (T.T. Neveritaweg 59). Pllek stands for healthy, sustainable and sated food. It is renowned for its environmentally conscious approach to restaurant running. The menu has plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans, and the meat and fish that is served come from the wild. Pllek uses as many locally sourced and organic products as possible.
Doors will be open at 18.00, at which point we will be welcomed to pick our seats. From 18.30, the tap will be open to order drinks from our tab. The tap will stay opened for only two hours (until 20.30), after which it is not possible anymore to order drinks. Food will be served in a three-course menu between 19.00 and 21.00.
Be aware! It is everyone's own responsibility to return to your home or accommodation. We will not be returning to the KIT by boat. Public transport operates until midnight (ferry) or 00:30 (bus, trams, metro). To check your itinerary, you can use 9292.nl which calculates the quickest route with all forms of public transport. 9292 also available as an app on Google Play and App Store.
After the poster session on Thursday 20 June, we will have the Royal Tropical Dinner at the KIT from 18:30 - 21:00. This dinner will be in the style of a barbecue. Drinks and various snacks will be provided for a duration of two hours. In addition, everyone will have the choice of one BBQ item which includes a vegetarian and a vegan option, a side dish, and a dessert.
Hope to see you all at our social activities!
Sincerely,
the 5th Plant Microbiome Symposium Organising Committee
